
Becca Murphy is a Historic Preservation Specialist with Preservation Forward, LLC. Becca has been working with Preservation Forward since 2022, beginning as a freelancer and moving her way up to employee. With nine years of historic research under her belt, Becca specializes in National Register of Historic Places nominations, architectural history, and surveying.
Before fully joining Preservation Forward, Becca took on various archival roles in archives around Michigan. Her titles included: Archivist for the Ypsilanti Historical Society (March 2021- December 2022), Archival Intern at the Eastern Michigan University Archives (September 2022- December 2022), and Archives Assistant for Interlochen Center for the Arts (June 2023- August 2023). In these roles, Becca utilized managerial and organizational skills to process, digitize, inventory, and provide access to archival collections.
From September 2023 to April 2023, Becca acted as the Program Coordinator for America250MI or Michigan’s committee for the United States Semiquincentennial. Through speaking engagements, web content, and newsletters, Becca advocated for small museums, historical societies, and historic preservationists to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Becca holds a Master of Science in Historic Preservation (2022) and a Bachelor of Arts in History (2020) from Eastern Michigan University. She is published through her two National Register of Historic Places nominations (Millwood Apartments, Detroit, 2024) (Odd Fellows Hall, Midland, 2025) and appears in academic journals such as Archival Outlook and Post & Lintel.
